INTRODUCTION TO THE NILES WALK

I have been advised by my doctor and friends that I need to get more walking in one way or another due to my diabetes and neuropathy so I had been trying out various trails while the weather was good. I would take my little folding chair along to double as a cane and a place to rest when my feet would tire out.

Ray Scott told me about a spot that had a good walking trail down in the Fremont-Niles area. To get there just follow Alvarado Niles down until it becomes Niles Road. Then after you pass through the district of Niles, turn right at either G or H St, At the end you will be on 2nd. Ave. Their you will see a little Park where you can park your car. That's about where you see the red star on the map. It starts out with some paved trails. I'll try to explain some of it as we take a tour via the following pictures. On the map I have designated the 2 parking areas and outlined the trail I took in red. Their are plenty of tree's. bushes, flowers and yes a few weeds as well as birds. The tour ends at the dam where Niles Road takes a sharp left under the small overpass.

If you want to go directly to the dam continue straight down Niles Road  but don't turn left under the underpass & you will run into a very small parking lot. (see map)

There is a lot of area to walk besides where my tour takes you and when the weather turns nice again, I intend on going back.

It's well worth the trip.

This was my first time working with M.S. Paint to any extent and I could have done a better job on this map. With a little practice I'm sure I can do better.
